Our goal
We aim for our website, alterphaseroofing.com, to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, the internationally recognized standard for accessible websites. We built the current website with that standard in mind from the start, and we fix problems as soon as we learn about them.
What we've built in
- Readable text. Body text is 16–17 pixels with generous line spacing, and text and buttons meet WCAG color contrast requirements.
- Zoom friendly. Pages reflow and stay usable when you zoom your browser to 200% or more. Use Ctrl and + (Windows) or Cmd and + (Mac). Nothing scrolls sideways on a phone.
- Keyboard access. You can reach every link, button, menu and form field with the Tab key. A "Skip to content" link appears first, and the item you're on is clearly outlined.
- Menus that behave. Our dropdown menus open on keyboard focus as well as on hover, and close with the Escape key.
- Screen reader structure. Pages use one main heading and a logical heading order, landmarks for the header, navigation, main content and footer, and breadcrumbs that announce where you are.
- Labeled forms. Every form field has a visible label. Required fields are marked for assistive technology. Error messages are announced, and the step counter in our 3-step estimate form is read out as you move through it.
- Images with descriptions. Photos that carry information have text descriptions. Decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Accessible questions and answers. FAQs use standard expandable sections that work with keyboards and screen readers.
- Less motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, we turn off animations and scrolling effects.
- No time limits. Nothing on the website times out while you read or fill in a form.
- Large tap targets. Buttons are big and well spaced, and the phone number is always one tap away on mobile.
How we test
We check pages with automated accessibility testing (Google Lighthouse, where the pages we tested score 100 for accessibility). We also check them by hand: navigating with only a keyboard, zooming in, and on small phone screens. Automated tools can't catch everything, so we welcome feedback from people who use assistive technology every day.
Known limitations
- Older guide images. Some images in our older guides came from our previous website. A few have short descriptions, or contain text (such as infographics) that isn't fully repeated on the page. We're updating them.
- Other websites. Links to Google Maps, review platforms, manufacturers and government websites take you to sites we don't control, and their accessibility may vary.
If any of these gets in your way, contact us and we'll give you the information another way.
